Paula Smelt Interview

  • Can you tell us a little about yourself? Can you share a unique or interesting aspect about yourself that people may not know?

In terms of personality, I’m a very positive person, and I like to stay happy. This makes me an easy-going character, and I always try to make everyone around me feel comfortable

  • Apart from modeling, what other passions or hobbies drive you?

I like to stay active by dancing Flamenco and boxing. Both help me disconnect and fully enjoy the moment. I’m also passionate about animals—besides my job, I dog-sit, which brings so much joy and balance into my life.

  • If you had the opportunity to travel anywhere in the world for a photoshoot, where would you choose and why?

I would love to travel to NYC because I think my style and personality would really fit in with the outgoing and dynamic vibe of the city. However, one of my dreams is to do a shoot—or any kind of creative project—related to Flamenco and its culture, and there’s no better place for that than the south of Spain.

  • How would you describe your personal style? Do you have any fashion icons or inspirations?

My style is a mix of classy and funky. I like to break up clean looks with unexpected details. For example, I might wear an all-black outfit and pair it with big shoes or a bold bag for contrast.

I’ve always been inspired by my stepmom. She had a classy style, but would add unique touches—like high-heeled sneakers with animal print or a standout hat. Over the years, she’s adapted her style with grace, which I find really empowering. For me, it shows she accepts who she is and embraces how our bodies and tastes evolve. That kind of confidence really inspires me.

  • Are there any specific fashion trends or styles that you enjoy experimenting with or incorporating into your own look?

During my photoshoots, I’ve been exposed to so many different styles, and it’s made me more open to experimentation. Lately, I’d love to start wearing more heels—comfy ones that can be easily styled with anything. They give a great silhouette and a boost of confidence.

  • What is your greatest weakness and how have you tried to overcome it?

One of my biggest weaknesses used to be overthinking. I would analyze every little thing instead of just being present and trusting myself. I’ve worked on this by practicing mindfulness and focusing on preparation. Now, I remind myself that confidence and authenticity come from being in the moment, and I let go of the need to be perfect.

  • What are your strengths?

My strengths are my versatility, professionalism, and strong sense of self. I can adapt to different styles and moods easily, and I always bring energy and intention to everywhere and with everyone. I also understand the importance of reliability and attitude, and I always show up prepared and open.

  • What are you passionate about?

I’m passionate about constantly pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. Modeling gives me the chance to explore different sides of myself, work with inspiring people, and be part of projects that are visually powerful. I love how every shoot or runway show is a new opportunity to grow, and express myself.

  • What aspect of the modeling industry are you most passionate about?

I love how modeling lets you embody different personalities through fashion. One day, you’re asked to be a powerful, Greek goddess-type character; the next, a broken Barbie. The transformation and storytelling behind each look really excite me.

  • Could you share your career goals and aspirations for the next five years, both within and beyond the modeling industry?

In modeling, I want to work with diverse brands that align with my values—projects that feel authentic and creatively fulfilling. I’d love to explore more editorial work and eventually walk in international fashion weeks, continuing to develop my presence and confidence in front of the camera.

Outside modeling, I qant to keep growing in my career. Eventually, I would like to have a small team to lead. I like being active thorugh conferences, courses or reading about peocurement and supply chain in general. More in depth, I see myself working in the animal healthcare industry, which is where I am currently.

  • What inspired you to pursue a career in modeling? Was there a specific moment or experience that influenced your decision?

A friend of mine needed someone to style for a photoshoot. He was asking me for a long time and finally I accepted to help him out. I liked how comfortable I felt in front of the camera and the results we got.

After that project, a lot of small castings and requests started to come up and it was not only him that saw me as a model but everyone in my surroundings.

  • Who is your favorite model and why? How has their work influenced your own modeling journey?

As per today, Liu Wen is my favorite model. I love her elegance and her naturality in front of the camera. I love that she doesn’t over-pose or rely on theatrics, yet she leaves a lasting impact.

Watching her has influenced me with embracing my traits and understand that the traditional beauty standards are not really the only ones important to become a model.

  • Do you have a favorite fashion designer or brand that resonates with your personal style or aesthetic? What draws you to their designs and
    philosophy?

I follow a lot Zadig and Voltaire style, in combination with Sandro or Maje. I like a lot that they always that they are constantly reafirming their identity by not changing their style. Additionally, I also find it very interesting that they are not making difference in gender or styles, but it is interwined.
